Aquarium Holidays kicks off on December 4 with the Holiday Treats for the Animals festival and runs through December 23. This special season at the Aquarium features festive décor, a gingerbread house display, and shopping. On weekends December 4 through 19 the Aquarium will have photo opportunities with Santa. Reservations are required, and safety protocols are in place. For more information, the public can call (562) 590-3100 or visit aquariumofpacific.org.
If you missed it this summer, visit the Coral Reefs: Nature’s Underwater Cities exhibit and see the new sandbar shark in Shark Lagoon, which illustrates the types of animals found living around coral reefs. The juvenile shark is approximately one-and-a-half years old and was born at another aquarium accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Sandbar sharks are native to the western Atlantic Ocean and the Indo-Pacific Ocean. Juvenile sandbar sharks are typically found in coastal nurseries where they can hunt for food while avoiding predation. They can grow to 6.5 feet to 8 feet in length and weigh 100 to 200 pounds. This species is classified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as “vulnerable.”
Ring in 2022 at New Year’s Eve presented by Night Dive at the Aquarium of the Pacific. It will be a night to remember, with live bands playing and DJs spinning—all curated by the team that brings you Night Dive. This event will include dancing, food and drink for purchase, and a midnight countdown. Tickets reserved in advance are $49.95 per person (ages 18 and up only), or $44.95 per Aquarium member.
Please note that the Aquarium is closed on Christmas Day, December 25.
